A group of Manchester United fans hired a light aircraft with a ‘Glazers out’ banner and flew over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium.
Manchester United fans in the United States hired a small plane with a banner reading ‘Glazers Out’ and flew it over the stadium of the Glazer-owned Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The plane flew over Tampa Bay’s stadium during their early Monday morning game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The aircraft was hired by the US fan group ‘Pittsburgh & Tampa supporters’ and is the latest protest by the fans against their owners since 2005.
In addition to the clear sporting decline in the last decade – United have not won the Champions League since 2008 and the Premier League since 2013 – fans accuse the Glazers of having put the club into debt and of having used it only for their own benefit.
The protests have intensified in recent weeks because of the tense atmosphere in the team, with poor sporting results and off-field problems, and the refusal to sell the club.
Qatar and the Ineos group were ready to take over United and end the Glazers’ 18-year run, but the Glazers have decided to delay the process because they believe they can make much more money in the future, rather than the £5 billion (5.75 million euros) that the Qataris and the British have put on the table.
